Beyond Tick the Box: HR Compliance Maturity Diagnostic Tool

A question for C-suite and HR executives:

Are you noticing any of the following in your organisation: Low productivity, disengaged employees, repeated issues with conduct or a lack of trust in reporting concerns?

These can all be symptoms of a ‘box ticking’ approach to HR compliance where policies exist on paper but aren’t truly embedded in daily culture and behaviours.

I recently joined Ticker News to discuss why a ‘tick the box’ approach to compliance just isn’t enough.

The HR compliance landscape is more complex than ever. Recent laws around psychosocial safety, sexual harassment and discrimination now impose a positive duty on employers. This means you’re expected to take proactive, meaningful action to prevent risks like discrimination, bullying and psychological harm, not just respond after the fact.

Simply having policies on paper or running one off training sessions isn’t enough and doesn’t protect you or your organisation from penalties, prosecution, or reputational damage. More importantly, this approach misses the human element, your people, who these laws are designed to protect. Employees quickly see through token efforts.

True compliance is about weaving these obligations into your culture, where leaders set the tone and expectations are lived every day. When compliance is genuinely embedded from the top down, you not only better meet your obligations, you create a workplace where people feel safe, respected, and able to thrive. This is what drives real engagement, trust and performance.

To help organisations move beyond ‘box ticking’, I’ve developed a practical HR Compliance Maturity Diagnostic Tool. It’s designed for executives and HR leaders to quickly spot gaps, understand risks, and focus improvement efforts where it matters most. You can download the tool here: executiveresources.com.au

How confident are you that compliance is truly embedded in your workplace culture-not just on paper, but in everyday actions and leadership behaviours?

If you’re ready to create a compliance culture, I’d love to start a conversation get in touch.
